Times were hard in 1916.
every German had to live on a weekly ration of:
400 grammes of bread
230 grammes of meat
25 potatoes
90 grammes of butter (watered)
very little cheese
1 glass of milk
1 egg, from time to time.
In addition, everyone received:
250 grammes of oatmeal,
flour,
barley,
beans,
and in the summer, vegetables.
(but this is already december.)
They all dreaded what would be missing
in the rationed food list
the following week
or month.
My Great Aunt lived at No.147 Hauptstrasse, Berlin
through World War I.
When she died in 1965, I sneaked into her room and found,
among other things, a box.
I took it with me.
